Some Go

Some Go is a dance production choreographed by Lizzi Kew Ross, set to excerpts from Luciano Berio's Cries of London (1974-1976). Berio’s composition draws inspiration from the street vendors’ cries, which he described as “more like an echo of the street vendor's voice, as the composer absorbed them as they rebounded from the wall of the house.” These fragmented echoes serve as the heartbeat of the piece, intertwining sound and movement in a reflection of the city’s vibrant yet fleeting voices.

In creating Some Go, Lizzi Kew Ross was inspired by the concept of excavating through the sedimentary layers that lie beneath the surface of London, unearthing the echoes of the city's past and present. The choreography explores the idea of these echoes, capturing the fleeting nature of memory and history. The piece is also influenced by the dark, intricate details of Hogarth's etchings, bringing a sense of depth and narrative to the performance.

Some Go was devised in collaboration with third-year dance students from Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, alongside the vocal ensemble Ruby Throat, led by Linda Hirst at Trinity Laban. This ensemble of dancers and singers merges the physicality of dance with the haunting vocal textures of Berio’s Cries of London, creating a layered, immersive experience that invites audiences to journey through the resonant history of the city.
